The entire program runs on our servers which means that there's no software to install on your computer, and more importantly, it means that you can edit your web site from any computer that has an internet connection.
For the more technically minded, Site Pilot uses industry leading database software, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and both the visitor web site and Site Pilot software itself is written ASP.NET. If this means nothing to you, then don't worry; as a Site Pilot user all you will need is a computer with either Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari web browser software and a connection to the internet.
It really couldn't be much easier - you will be presented with a list of the pages that make up your web site, along with details of each page; for example whether it is currently live on your web site, if it due to be taken off, when the page was last updated and by whom.
When it comes to editing a page you click on the one that you would like to update and then you can type to your hearts content, adding images and links as you go.
Nearly every web site makes use of images, provides links to downloadable documents or shows video - you won't be left out. Site Pilot organises your digital assets into a nice neat folder structure that means when you want to use an image it'll be exactly where it should be.
You will be able to upload PDF or word documents, even an Excel spreadsheet, endless images or video in a variety of formats for inclusion on your web site. Site Pilot has a simple interface to help you upload files, and for the more advanced user you can also upload via FTP.
RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a way of alerting your visitors to new articles published on your web site. With a variety of methods of reading RSS feeds, including e-mail software (Outlook, Thunderbird), web based services such as Google and Yahoo!, or even your mobile phone, RSS is a very effective way to deliver content.
Each page in your Site Pilot web site can be enabled for RSS.
Collecting your visitors details can be useful for a variety of purposes; primarily as a marketing tool. When a visitor comes to your site looking for information about the products or services that you offer, asking them to register with you then means that you can follow up their visit to find out if they found what they were looking for, or if you can offer further assistance.
The information that you collect during the registration is entirely up to you, provided it complies with the Data Protection Act, and is held in a secure database.
You may have information on your site that you only want certain visitors to be able to see; Access Controlled Pages allows you to decide who has access and who doesn't.
Let's say, for example, you have company report that you would like to publish on your web site but at the same time you do not want everyone in the world to be able to read it; well, in conjunction with the Visitor Registration Database, visitors can register their details on your web site and then you can decide whether or not to allow them to read your company report, or any other piece of sensitive information.
Especially useful for web sites with a large number of pages, the site search allows visitors to search your entire web site for words or phrases; the results are then returned in order of relevance.
Capture information and have it e-mailed to you; the information that you capture can be anything you want it to be. Once your visitor has completed the required details it will all be neatly packaged up and sent to you immediately in an e-mail.
Ease of navigation for your visitors is vital; if they can't find their way around your site they will probably go elsewhere. Site Pilot's architecture means that menus are dynamically generated each time you update, add or delete a page, eliminating the possibility of broken links. However, a site map provides a complete overview of all the pages in your web site and how they relate to each other.
Similarly, it's vital that search engines can index your web site efficiently; for this reason, an XML site map is also created each time you add, update or delete a page so that Google, Yahoo!, MSN and other search engines can find their way around your web site.
Crucial to any web site - Site Pilot offers a flexible approach to META tags/data.
You can add META at a site global or page local level. This enables you to finely control and effectively differentiate the META across your site - making it more Search Engine friendly and easier to find via custom searches.
